WestJet adds Chicago
WestJet is now flying to Chicago from Vancouver and Calgary. The inaugural WestJet flights to Chicago O'Hare airport from Vancouver and Calgary took off yesterday. Flights depart daily from Vancouver until Oct. 27. Flights leave Vancouver at 11:40am and arrive in Chicago at 5:39pm.

WestJet is toying with the idea of replacing the in-flight entertainment system on their airplanes with tablets. The airline will give the plan a trial run in June when two of their aircraft will start distributing Samsung Galaxy tablets to passengers. But there's a catch, it will cost between $10-$12 to rent a tablet.

WestJet is expanding. The Calgary based airline is going ahead with plans to start a regional airline that will serve smaller Canadian cities. Currently WestJet’s fleet is made up exclusively of Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft which are too big to serve smaller cities.

Las Vegas is calling and now the people of Prince George and Hamilton can answer. WestJet has launched temporary non-stop service from both cities to Las Vegas which will run twice weekly for the next 11 weeks. According to WestJet's John MacLeod the routes are being tested and if they prove to be feasible could be re-intoduced as the WestJet fleet grows.

Ottawans (that's what they're called I looked it up) will now be able to travel non-stop to Las Vegas. WestJet will have seasonal flights from Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport to McCarran International in Las Vegas running until April 28 of next year.

Effective immediately WestJet will begin charging customers to check a second bag. The fee will apply to passengers who book to fly on any WestJet flight after January 19 of next year. Customers who booked a flight for after that date before November 3 will be exempt from the fee.
