Starting Apr. 30 Canadians travelling to the Dominican Republic will need to present their passport when entering the country. Currently Canadians entering the country via direct flight can get through customs with photo ID, such as a drivers license and proof of citizenship, such as a birth certficate. Travellers must also have a return air ticket.

The airliner is warning travellers heading to Mexico to ensure that their passports are in "perfect" condition. That means no rips, tears, missing pages or water damage.

Passport Canada will start issuing higher-security electronic passports, or ePassports, to Canadians next year. With the ePassport, Canadians will have the option of getting a new, security-enhanced passport that is valid for five years, starting next year, or a 10-year passport, starting in early 2013.

If you are a Canadian and are planning to travel to Mexico – you must have a valid Passport in hand effective from March 1, 2010. The Mexico Tourism Board has confirmed that this new requirement, although under discussion for many months, does indeed come into effect as at March 1, 2010.
