The disruptions caused by security screening guards at Toronto's Pearson International Airport should be coming to an end. Guards had been staging a work-to-rule campaign over the last week in protest of their employer Garda's plans to bring in shift bidding, a system in which employees submit bids on how much they'd be willing to work for during less popular shift times and the company choosing the lowest bidder.

Yesterday was Opt-Out Day in the United States, an online call for passengers to refuse to go through controversial full body scanners at US airports forcing Transportation Safety Administration guards to pat-down more passengers. Well it was kind of a non-event.

• Are all these security efforts and resulting line-ups worth it? • Is there a better way to do this inspection process? • Will things settle down and therefore the process be less stressful? I’m not so sure. I don’t know how a traveler could be left feeling any less respected. Personally, during my recent saga through the enhanced security at YVR, I was shocked at the face expressions of the countless security individuals.
