Happy April Fools Day! If you’re gullible like me today can be a bit of a handful but it’s all in good fun. Some airlines wanted in on the fun too and decided to make some wacky announcements, guess which one I fell for. WESTJET WestJet today announced the easing of restrictions on pets in the cabin. Las Vegas reminds you to know the code

Do you know the code? In light of Prince Harry’s recent naked jaunt in a Las Vegas hotel room the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority wants to remind travellers that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. To make sure people are familiar with the code the tourist board has a website where travellers can take an oath to ‘protect the moment’.

Heathrow preparing for Olympic effort

With the Olympics fast approaching the staff at London’s Heathrow Airport have been training to handle the 100,000 athletes, officials, VIPs and sponsors expected to come through the airport for games time. Last week the airport's employees held a dress rehearsal of sorts with staff processing more than 3,000 bags in just two hours according to MSNBC.

Toddler and parents booted off plane after airline says child’s name on on-fly list

Well here’s a weird one. An 18-month-old girl and her parents were removed from a JetBlue flight preparing to leave Ft. Lauderdale Airport Tuesday because the airline said the toddler’s name appeared on a no-fly list. The toddler, Riyanna and her parents were asked to leave the flight by an employee and then met with TSA officials.

Air Canada strike news update!

On top of the airline’s current impasse with their baggage handlers, mechanics and cargo agents – who were poised to strike  Monday – Air Canada threatened to lock out their pilots as of Monday after their union rejected their final contract offer.   But fear not spring break travellers Canada’s labour minister Lisa Raitt has referred both disputes to Canada’s  industrial relations board meaning neither the strike or lockout can go ahead while the board is reviewing the disputes.   The airline and its pilots [Read more...]

The union representing Air Canada’s baggage handlers, mechanics and cargo agents has issued strike notice to the airline.   Union members voted 78 per cent in favour of the strike mandate after turning down the airlines latest offer.   The union will be in strike position March 12   “The lines of communication remain open and we are hopeful that there remains sufficient time to avoid a work disruption,” Air Canada Chief Operating Officer Duncan Dee said in a statement.   We’ll keep you up to [Read more...]
