Porter looks to add longer distance flights from Toronto island

Porter Airlines wants to extend the main runway at Toronto island’s Billy Bishop Airport so it can accommodate the Bombardier CS100 jets the company plans on buying. The airline must get government approval for the extension and also needs a ban on jets using the airport overturned. If Porter gets what it’s asking for it would allow the company to operate longer distance flights out Billy Bishop. Las Vegas’ McCarran International set to open new terminal

Tomorrow Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport opens its new terminal, the $2.4 billion Terminal 3. The terminal is the "most-comprehensive expansion" in the airports 64-year history according to airport directors. Among the new features for passengers in Terminal 3 will be self-boarding gates and kiosks where they can check their own baggage.

Senate committee recommends ditching ground rent fees for airports

With a healthy majority of our country's population living within an hour and a half of the U.S. border we Canadians visit our southern neighbour to do a lot of things. According to the Canadian Airport Council in 2011 some 4.8 million of us went down south to catch a plane, most likely hoping to avoid some of the taxes and fees charged on air travel in the Great White North.

Air Canada strike news update!

YVR’s airport improvement fee increasing

Vancouver International Airport plans to spend $1.8 billion over the next decade to spruce itself up so it can remain competitive in the marketplace. What does this mean for the travelling public? It means that the airport improvement fee will jump from $15 to $20 come May 1 for those travelling outside of B.C. For those travelling within B.C. or the Yukon it will remain $5.

Delays at Heathrow expected tomorrow due to strike

If you're flying into London's Heathrow airport tomorrow (Nov.30) be prepared for delays and cancellations. On Wednesday UK Border Agency employees will be joining other unions in a 24-hour general strike to protest pension changes.The strike is expected to cause long delays for immigration checks.

UK makes body scans mandatory

If you're flying out of England's Gatwick, Heathrow or Manchester airport you will no longer be able to opt out of going through a full body scanner at security. The U.K.'s Transportation Minister Justine Greening made the announcement earlier this week. Greening said in a statement that the airports reported most of the travelling public are fine with the use of the scanners and out of over a million scans the government is aware of only twelve refusals.
