Here’s the latest edition of what could very well become a regular column tentatively titled ‘The Dumb Things People do at Airports’.

Two Yemeni men are currently in custody in the Netherlands as authorities believe they may have been doing a practice run for a terrorist attack.

The men were both flying through Amsterdam on their way to the Yemen capital of Sana’a.

But as more information becomes available it appears that this was just a big misunderstanding.

Here’s what we know so far.

The men are being held after items packaged together in their suitcases raised suspicion.

According to various reports the items were cell phones and watches bundled together and attached to bottles.

According to officials who spoke to CNN it’s not known if the two men know each other.

Dutch authorities are pondering whether to charge the men.

There are conflicting reports that the men also had knives and box cutters in their bags. One man was reportedly carrying $7000 in cash.

According to Reuters the U.S. Department of Homeland Security tipped off the Dutch when one of the men, originally scheduled to travel through Washington D.C., got on the Amsterdam flight and some of his luggage didn’t, instead it went through to D.C.
